Exhibition

【Ended】Lighting production developed in the workshop

October 24, 2025 – December 25, 2025

This exhibition is a spatial art installation incorporating citizen-participatory workshops. Participants created artworks using a technique called “scratch drawing,” based on the theme “A town I’d like to live in.” In addition to 80 pieces produced during the scratch workshop held at the Nishi Ward Art Festival (Kurosaki Civic Center) in 2024, the exhibition features works from the “Uchino Art Project” held in Uchino Town, Nishi Ward, Niigata City in 2025. These pieces have been reconfigured into collective light objects and pendant lighting installations.

For this exhibition, we have adopted light control technology previously used in our May exhibition, “Material “Light” — Works from the Hashimoto Laboratory”, to enable the artworks to be illuminated sequentially. This setup enables viewers to enjoy dynamic interactions between light and artwork, which reveal how the artworks transform over time. As part of our ongoing exploration of the fusion between engineering and artistic expression, we have pursued the potential of time-based visual transformations using light. Together with seminar students, we have designed and developed interactive systems that consider the relationship between the viewer and the artwork. These technologies and ideas also contribute to enriching and enlivening urban spaces.

This exhibition presents a restructured selection of these efforts. During the exhibition period, we will also introduce workshop practices alongside gallery talks.
