【Ended】TAKEUCHI Rinsen: the calligrapher who wrote the nameplate on the main gate of Niigata University

October 12, 2024 – December 15, 2024

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of Niigata University in May 1949. This exhibition focuses on TAKEUCHI Rinsen, who wrote the four Chinese characters “Niigata University” on the nameplate at the main gate of Niigata University’s Ikarashi campus in 1970, and exhibits his works and related materials.

TAKEUCHI Rinsen (1907-1986)
His real name is Tadao, and he is an emeritus professor at Niigata University. He was born in 1907 in Former Itakura Town, Nakakubiki Ward (now Joetsu City). When Niigata University was established in 1949, he was appointed as an assistant professor at the Takada Branch, Niigata University, and became a professor in 1961. He retired in 1973 and became professor emeritus in 1975.
